DataRooms.uk is an independent comparison site for people who need a virtual data room for a UK transaction. That might be a founder pulling together an SEIS or EIS round, an owner preparing to sell a family business, a corporate finance boutique running a competitive auction, a solicitor managing completion documents, or a property team handling a portfolio disposal. We look at the rooms on offer, test how they behave in the situations UK deal teams actually face, and publish what we find in plain English.
Why this site exists
Most data room comparisons are written for a generic global buyer. They rarely say anything about UK GDPR, the questions a Takeover Code timetable raises, what a Companies House filing pack looks like inside a room, or how a buyer’s solicitor in Leeds will experience the Q&A module on a Friday afternoon before exchange. Those details matter when you are choosing a provider, and they are the details we try to cover.
We also think pricing deserves more honesty than it usually gets. Many providers do not publish prices, and the ones that do quote them in US dollars. Where we have figures, we show the dollar price with an approximate sterling conversion and a clear note that the number is indicative, may exclude VAT and should be confirmed with the provider before you sign anything.
Who we are
The site is written and maintained by a small, independent editorial team that works with deal documents and business software day to day. Pages carry the team’s name, not personal bylines. Every page is the shared work of the people who research, test, edit and check it, and we would rather you judge the work on its method and accuracy than on a byline.
What we can promise is a visible process. Our methodology sets out exactly how rooms are scored, our editorial policy explains how pages are researched, checked and corrected, and every review carries a date showing when it was last updated.
What we cover
- Provider reviews for fourteen data room providers, each scored on the same five criteria with the UK reader in mind. You can browse them on the providers page.
- A ranked comparison of the rooms we rate most highly for UK work, on the best data rooms UK page.
- Sector guides for the transaction types that come up most often in the UK, from selling a business to administration and insolvency. See all of them on the sectors page.
- Practical resources on preparing, running and closing a data room, collected on the resources page.
- Cost guidance on the data room costs page, and a short quiz that suggests rooms based on your deal.
What we do not do
We do not accept payment for a higher position in our rankings or a better score. We do not publish sponsored reviews, and we do not let providers approve or edit what we write about them. If a provider points out a factual error, we check it and correct it like any other error; if they simply disagree with our view, the view stands unless new evidence changes it.
We also do not give legal, tax, regulatory or financial advice. Our guides explain how data rooms fit into UK processes, and we link to official sources such as the ICO, HMRC and the Takeover Panel where that helps, but your own advisers are the right people to tell you what a specific transaction requires.
How the site is funded
Running the site costs money: research time, software accounts, hosting and editing. We cover those costs mainly through affiliate links. When you follow a link marked “Affiliate” to a provider’s website and later buy a subscription, that provider may pay us a commission. You pay the same price either way.
Commission never changes a score, a ranking or the wording of a review. Rooms that pay us nothing are reviewed and ranked on exactly the same basis as rooms that do. The full arrangement is set out in our advertising disclosure.
Keeping pages current
Data room products change quickly. Providers add features, rename plans and adjust prices, sometimes without much notice. We re-check every provider review on a regular cycle and update pages sooner when we learn of a material change. The date at the top of each page shows when it was last reviewed. If something looks out of date, we want to know.
Get in touch
You can reach the editorial team through our contact page. It is the right place to:
- report a factual error or an out-of-date price;
- suggest a provider or a UK deal type we should cover;
- ask a question about how we score rooms;
- raise a privacy request about data the site processes.
We read every message. We cannot offer advice on individual transactions, but we will always reply to corrections and reasonable questions about our work.
