Advertising disclosure

This page explains, in plain English, how DataRooms.uk is paid for and how that affects what you see on the site. We want you to know about any commercial relationship before you click, not after.

The short version

  • A number of our outbound links pay us if you buy. Every page carries a notice in the footer saying so, and this page explains how it works.
  • Should you follow one and then subscribe, the provider may pay us a commission.
  • Your price is identical with or without our link.
  • Commission never changes a score, a ranking or what we write in a review.

These links carry a reference that tells the provider your visit came from DataRooms.uk. If you go on to take out a paid subscription, the provider may pay us a fee under an agreement we have with it, either directly or through an affiliate network. This is how we fund research, testing, editing and hosting without charging readers.

Not every provider we cover has an affiliate arrangement with us, and the arrangements we do have can change over time. We do not list individual partners on this page, because the arrangements change. If a link can earn us money, it is marked as sponsored in the page code and covered by the notice on every page.

We follow the expectations set by the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising (the CAP Code), enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority, that marketing communications should be obviously identifiable as such. In practice that means:

  • Site-wide notice. Every page carries a notice in the footer that some links are affiliate links, with a link to this page.
  • Notices near comparisons. Our comparison tables and ranked lists carry a short notice explaining that some links are affiliate links.
  • Technical markup. Affiliate links use rel="sponsored" so search engines can identify them as paid relationships.
  • Redirect links. Some affiliate links pass through a short address on our own domain, beginning /go/, before reaching the provider. This lets us count clicks and keep links up to date. It does not change where you end up or what you pay.

Why commission does not affect our scores

The Competition and Markets Authority’s guidance on online reviews makes clear that readers should not be misled about how rankings are produced or about any incentives behind them. We agree, and our process is built so that commercial terms cannot influence the result:

  • One scoring framework, set out in our methodology, applies to all fourteen providers, paying or not.
  • Scores are set by the editorial team. People who handle commercial arrangements do not set or adjust scores.
  • Rankings are ordered by overall score, with ties listed alphabetically. A provider cannot pay to move up.
  • We do not sell featured placements, sponsored reviews or “editor’s choice” badges.
  • Providers do not see or approve reviews before publication.

If a provider with an affiliate arrangement has a weakness, the review says so. If a provider with no arrangement is the best fit for a particular UK deal type, our sector guides say that too.

What our scores are, and are not

Our scores are editorial assessments made by our team. They are not customer reviews and they are not averages of ratings collected from users or third-party platforms. We present them as our own judgement, explain how they are reached, and show the criterion scores behind each overall figure so you can check our reasoning. More detail on our standards is in our editorial policy.

Prices and offers

Prices shown on the site are indicative. Most providers publish prices in US dollars; we show an approximate sterling conversion and note that prices may exclude VAT. Trial terms and discounts are set by providers and can change without notice. Check the live price and contract terms on the provider’s side before committing. We are not responsible for a provider’s pricing, contract terms or service.

Other ways we may be paid

At present, affiliate commission is our main source of income. We do not run display advertising networks on the site. If that changes, we will update this page and label any advertising clearly as “Ad” or “Advertisement” where it appears.

Questions

If anything on this page is unclear, or you think a commercial link is not clear enough, please tell us through our contact page. We will look into it and correct it if needed. You can read more about who we are on our about page.
